Project description

Prospecto Barriales es un yacimiento estratoligado de cobre-oro ubicado en la Región de Coquimbo, actualmente en etapa de exploración básica. El depósito se desarrolla sobre una secuencia de lavas y brechas andesíticas de la Formación Viñitas (Albiano Superior a Coniaciano Medio), caracterizada por alteración argílica extensa con anomalías de coloración rojo anaranjada, en contacto con cuerpos intrusivos granodioríticos a dioríticos de edad Cretácico Superior a Terciario. Las estructuras principales corresponden a diques dioríticos y fallas de rumbo norte a nor-noreste, con mantiformes de volcanitas andesíticas y brechas tobáceas que presentan manteos de 30° a 40° hacia el este, asociadas a alteración propilítica distal. El prospecto se emplaza dentro de la Franja Metalogénica Paleoceno-Eoceno.

Geological summary

El prospecto se caracteriza por una extensa área con alteración argílica, con claras y extensas anomalías de color rojo anaranjado, que se superpone a una secuencia de estratos de lavas y brechas andesíticas de la formación Viñitas, de edad Albiano Superior a Coniaciano Medio. Estos estratos se encuentran en contacto tanto al este como al oeste del sector con afloramientos de cuerpos intrusivos granodioríticos a dioríticos de edad Cretácico Superior a Terciario, evidenciándose además alteración propilítica distal. Las estructuras más destacadas del sector son diques dioríticos y fallas con estructuras distritales de rumbo generalizado norte a nor-noreste. Los afloramientos principales corresponden a una serie de estructuras mantiformes de volcanitas andesíticas, brechas y brechas tobáceas, de rumbo generalizado norte a norte 20° E y manteos de 30° a 40° E. El prospecto se sitúa en la Franja Metalogénica Paleoceno–Eoceno de pórfidos y epitermales.
